ASC President Michael Berkow brings expertise to CSIS event about police reform in Africa
NEW YORK, NY, March 29, 2010—
Altegrity Security Consulting (ASC) President Michael Berkow is a lead presenter at a new Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS)-sponsored project focusing on the challenge of police reform in Africa. Mr. Berkow’s presentation to the CSIS Africa Program will be held at the CSIS headquarters in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, March 30, 2010.
The Challenge of Police Reform in Africa event marks the official launch of a CSIS project to look at the challenge of police reform in Africa and find ways the United States can support it more effectively. As an international police assistance project manager for the Department of Justice, Mr. Berkow directed efforts to rebuild police forces across Africa. He will discuss the problems he encountered on the ground. Dr. David Bayley, one of the world's leading experts on international criminal justice, will also make a presentation on the challenges that the U.S. faces in designing successful programs of support.
Mr. Berkow, former Chief of the Savannah, Ga., Police Department, is an acknowledged expert on police investigations and operations as well as developing policing infrastructure in post conflict nations. He has significant experience in global policing and security solutions, having served in high-level positions in both the U.S. and international law enforcement communities.
