ARI Chairman William Bratton to Receive Honorary Doctorate from USC, Speak at Commencement

NEW YORK, NY, May 2, 2010 – Altegrity Risk International (ARI) Chairman William Bratton, who established his reputation in the law enforcement and criminal justice communities as one of America’s premier police chiefs, will receive an honorary Doctorate of Laws from The University of Southern California (USC) at its 127th commencement ceremony on Friday, May 14. Honorary degree recipients represent a global set of civic, academic, and arts leaders.

Mr. Bratton was chosen to receive the degree by unanimous recommendation from the Honorary Degrees Committee of the faculty and concurrence of the USC Board of Trustees. USC is honoring Mr. Bratton for his distinguished career as a public servant and law enforcement executive, his innovative leadership in reducing crime in three major U.S. cities, and his pivotal role in building bridges between the LAPD and the city’s diverse communities—making L.A. a safer and better place to live. Four other noted leaders will receive honorary doctorates that day: John Hood, Ting-Kai Li, Festus G. Mogae, and Esa-Pekka Salonen.

More than 40,000 graduates and their families are expected to fill Alumni Park and the sites of 34 satellite ceremonies. More than 10,000 degrees will be conferred at the commencement, including about 475 Ph.D.s.

Following the morning commencement, Mr. Bratton will deliver the afternoon commencement address for approximately 400 graduating master’s and Ph.D. students at the USC School of Policy, Planning, and Development. The expected audience at this ceremony is approximately 2,000 people.
