ARI Chairman William Bratton Panelist at Security Conference in Brazil

NEW YORK, NY, May 17, 2010 – Altegrity Risk International (ARI) Chairman William Bratton, who established his reputation in the law enforcement and criminal justice communities as one of America’s premier police chiefs, is a panelist at a security conference in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, today that is co-sponsored by the Americas Society and Council of the Americas and Americas Quarterly. The Spring 2010 issue of the Americas Quarterly journal, which includes an article co-authored by Mr. Bratton titled “8 Steps to Reduce Crime,” will be launched at the one-day conference.

Sérgio de Oliveira Cabral Santos Filho, governor of the state of Rio de Janeiro, is the keynote speaker at the conference, which will include more than 100 public officials, security experts from the public and private sectors, academics, and journalists.

In his article for Americas Quarterly, Mr. Bratton discusses how crime in U.S. cities once seemed on the verge of spiraling out of control, but bringing police structures and operations more in touch with communities has helped reverse this trend. He suggests that these same tactics can work in Latin America, including reforms in police departments, development of new police strategies, and coordinated efforts by the criminal justice system.
