ASC President Michael Berkow to discuss maritime security issues at event sponsored by U.S. Institute of Peace

New York, NY, May 27, 2010—Altegrity Security Consulting (ASC) President Michael Berkow will take part in a panel discussion on the topic of “Threats to Maritime Security,” sponsored by the U.S. Institute of Peace on June 2, 2010, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. in Washington, D.C.

Panelists will discuss how the international community is currently tackling maritime security issues, such as piracy, terrorism, pollution, and trafficking, and what additional capacities and resources will be required to counter these threats in the future. 

Mr. Berkow, former Chief of the Savannah, Ga., Police Department, is an acknowledged expert on police investigations and operations as well as developing policing infrastructure in post-conflict nations. He has significant experience in global policing and security solutions, having served in high-level positions in both the U.S. and international law enforcement communities.

Other panelists include Donna Hopkins, Plans and Policy Team Leader, Bureau of Political Military Affairs, U.S. Department of State, and Bruce Averill, Founder and Senior Partner of Strategic Energy Solutions. The event will be monitored by Robert Perito from the U.S. Institute of Peace.
